Emergencies We Deal With

Many emergencies start below ground. A blocked main drain or sewer can push waste back up through the lowest outlet in the building, usually a downstairs toilet, a shower tray or an outside gully. We clear these with rods and high-pressure jetting, working until the flow is restored, and can put a camera down afterwards to find out why it happened. Sewage inside a home is a health risk, so we treat these calls as a priority.

Inside the property, we deal with blocked toilets that will not flush, sinks and baths that are full and not draining, and leaks from waste pipes, traps and fittings. Washing machine and dishwasher outlets that flood the kitchen are another common call. Overflowing gullies and flooded driveways after heavy rain also come under our emergency work.

We are drainage and plumbing specialists, not heating engineers. We do not work on gas appliances, boilers or central heating, so for a boiler breakdown or a suspected gas leak you will need a gas engineer or the national gas emergency line.

What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency

If water or waste is escaping where it should not and you cannot stop it, treat it as an emergency. That includes sewage coming up through a toilet, shower or gully, a leaking pipe you cannot isolate, and water spreading across floors.

If you are unsure, ring us anyway. We will tell you honestly whether it needs a visit straight away or can safely wait until morning. A slow drain or a dripping trap is a nuisance rather than an emergency, and our plumbing repairs service can book it in.

What to Do While You Wait

If water is leaking, turn off the stopcock, which is often found under the kitchen sink. Stop using taps, toilets and appliances that drain into a blocked system, and keep children and pets away from any sewage. If sewage has entered the house, avoid touching it without gloves and wash your hands thoroughly.

Switch off electrics near the water if it is safe to do so, and move valuables out of harm's way. Leave covers and blockages for us to deal with.

Sewage Backups

When waste rises through a toilet, shower or gully, the main drain is usually blocked further down the line. We find the obstruction, clear it with rods or jetting and get the system flowing again so the property can be cleaned up.

Manhole Overflows

A manhole spilling into a garden or driveway means the pipe beyond it is blocked. We work from the next chamber downstream to clear the line and stop the overflow, then check the run for damage that may have caused it.

Storm Flooding

Heavy rain can overwhelm gullies and surface water drains that are partly choked with leaves and silt. We clear the obstruction so the water can drain away, and advise on any repair needed to stop it happening again next time.

Toilets That Won't Flush

A toilet that will not flush, or fills to the rim, is an urgent problem in any home, especially when it is the only one. We clear the pan and its waste pipe, and check the drain outside if the blockage is further down.

Split Waste Pipes

Water escaping from a split waste pipe, failed joint or cracked trap can soak through floors and ceilings surprisingly quickly. We stop the leak, repair or replace the faulty section and check that everything drains as it should afterwards.

Out-of-Hours Business Call-Outs

A blocked drain in a commercial kitchen, hotel or shop cannot wait until Monday. We attend business emergencies at any hour so you can keep trading, and contract arrangements are available for commercial customers who want a regular contact.

Homes, Landlords and Businesses Covered

A blocked drain at a restaurant, hotel or shop can close the doors, so we treat commercial and industrial emergencies with the same urgency as domestic ones. Landlords and letting agents can call us directly when a tenant reports a problem out of hours. Contract customers can use the same number.

Our engineers have the jetting and drain clearing equipment to tackle serious blockages, and where a repair is needed we make the area safe and explain the next steps. We are fully insured and guarantee all our work. If the cause is structural, we can return to carry out the permanent repair at a time that suits you.

We will always call you back, keep you updated and arrive when we say we will. We are often called out to jobs where another contractor has failed to turn up.

Emergency Plumbing FAQs

Common questions about emergency plumbing in Gloucestershire.

Yes. Our emergency line, 07966 142960, is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including weekends and bank holidays. Overflowing drains and sewage backups do not wait for office hours, and neither do we. If we cannot pick up straight away, we will always call you back.

No. We never charge a call-out fee, whether it is a planned visit or an emergency in the early hours. You pay for the work carried out, and we explain what is needed before we start so there are no surprises when the job is finished.

No. We do not work on gas appliances, boilers or central heating. If you smell gas, leave the property, avoid using switches and call the national gas emergency line. For a boiler breakdown, contact a qualified gas engineer. We handle drainage emergencies, blockages, flooding and leaks from water and waste pipework.

Stop flushing straight away, as each flush adds more water. If the cistern keeps filling, turn off the isolation valve on its supply pipe. If other drains in the house are also slow or backing up, the blockage is probably in the main drain outside, so call us rather than plunging repeatedly.

Gullies and drains can overflow in a storm when leaves, silt or debris partly block them, or when a damaged pipe cannot carry the volume of water. If it happens every time it rains, a jetting clean and a camera check will show the cause so it can be fixed properly.

Yes. We attend emergencies at shops, offices, restaurants, hotels and industrial sites as well as homes. We understand that a blocked drain can stop a business trading, so we work to get you up and running again as quickly as possible, with as little disruption as we can manage.

Sometimes. Our first priority in an emergency is to stop the flooding and restore flow. If the cause turns out to be a cracked pipe, root ingress or a collapse, we explain the options and give you a free quote for a lasting repair, which can be booked at a time that suits you.
