Local Engineers Who Clear Blockages Properly
Jet Plumb has been clearing blocked drains Gloucestershire wide for over 20 years, working from our base in Ebley, Stroud. We are an independent, family-run business, so when you call you speak to the people who will turn up, and we arrive when we say we will.
A blockage rarely fixes itself. Waste water has to go somewhere, and if it cannot get away it finds the weakest point, whether that is a shower tray, a downstairs toilet or an inspection chamber in the garden. We find the cause, clear the whole pipe rather than punching a hole through the blockage, and leave the drain running freely.
How We Unblock Drains
Every blockage is different, so we start by working out what it is and where it sits. A slow bathroom basin is usually hair and soap close to the plughole, while a manhole full to the brim points to a problem further down the line. Where the cause is not obvious, or the drain keeps blocking, we feed a CCTV camera through the pipe to see exactly what is going on.
Then we choose the right tool. Rods shift simple, shallow obstructions near an access point. High-pressure water jetting at 3,000 to 4,000 psi breaks up fat, silt, wipes and roots and scours the pipe walls clean, so the problem is far less likely to come straight back. Tree roots that have pushed through joints can be cut out.
If the camera shows a cracked, displaced or collapsed pipe behind the blockage, we explain the options before doing anything else. That might be a lining repair from the inside or, where the pipe is too badly damaged, excavation and replacement. Either way, you get a clear explanation and a free quote first.
- Toilets, baths, showers and basins
- Kitchen sinks and waste pipes
- Outside drains, gullies and inspection chambers
- Washing machine and dishwasher outlets
- Main drain runs and private sewers
- Commercial kitchens, grease traps and septic tank outlets
Toilet Blockages
A toilet that fills up instead of flushing needs quick attention. We clear the pan and the pipe beyond it, then check the main drain outside so the problem does not simply move further down the line.
Kitchen Sink Clearance
Fat, food scraps and coffee grounds gradually choke kitchen waste pipes until the sink stops emptying. We clear the trap and the pipework behind it, and jet the run to the outside gully so grease is removed rather than pushed along.
Bath and Shower Wastes
Hair and soap build up in bathroom wastes until water sits around your feet. We clear the trap and pipe properly, which lasts far longer than chemical drain cleaners, and check whether a shared stack or drain is also slowing things down.
Outside Gully Clearance
Yard gullies collect leaves, silt and food waste and can overflow across paths and driveways. We empty the gully pot, clear the connecting pipe and flush it through, so rainwater and waste water drain away properly again.
Appliance Outlet Blockages
When a washing machine or dishwasher floods the floor, the outlet pipe or the trap it shares with the sink is often to blame. We clear lint, grease and debris from the outlet and check the drain it runs into.
Manhole Chamber Blockages
A manhole full of standing waste means the blockage is further along the main drain. We locate it, clear it with rods or jetting, and clean the chamber benching so solids stop collecting there and slipping back into the pipe.
Why Drains Block in the First Place
Wet wipes, nappies and sanitary products do not break down like toilet paper, and they snag in pipes. Cooking fat sets hard as it cools and builds up along the pipe walls until it forms a fatberg. Hair and soap clog bathroom wastes, and tree roots creep into joints looking for moisture.
Older clay pipes can also crack or shift, leaving ledges where waste catches. Once we have cleared the blockage, we tell you what caused it and how to stop it happening again.
Homes, Landlords and Businesses
For homeowners, a blocked drain is an urgent nuisance and sometimes a health hazard. We aim to get you back to normal with as little mess as possible, and we clean up the work area before we leave.
Landlords and letting agents need a contractor who answers the phone and reports back. We can deal with tenants directly, explain what we found and, where it helps, record camera footage so you have a record of the drain's condition.
Restaurants, hotels, shops and industrial sites cannot afford to close because of a drain. We work around your hours where we can, clear grease traps and kitchen drains, and offer regular maintenance visits to reduce the chance of a repeat. Contract work is welcome.
Warning Signs of a Blocked Drain
Most blockages give some warning before they cause a flood. Call us if you notice any of these, especially if more than one fitting is affected at the same time.
- Sinks, baths or showers draining slowly
- Water rising in the toilet bowl when you flush
- Gurgling noises from plugholes or the toilet
- A sewage smell indoors or around outside drains
- Water pooling around a gully or seeping from a manhole cover
- The same drain blocking again soon after it was cleared
- Dirty water backing up into a sink or shower tray

Blocked Drains FAQs
Common questions about blocked drains in Gloucestershire.
A plunger or a kettle of hot water can shift a small, shallow blockage in a sink or bath. Avoid strong chemical cleaners, which can damage pipes and rarely reach the real problem. If the water does not clear, the blockage keeps returning or more than one fitting is affected, it is time to call an engineer.
Generally, pipes within your property boundary that serve only your home are yours to look after. Shared drains and public sewers beyond the boundary are usually the water company's responsibility. If you are unsure where the blockage is, a camera inspection will show where it sits and who should deal with it.
No. There is no call-out charge, whether you ring us during the working day or in the middle of the night. We explain what needs doing and give you a free, no-obligation quote before we start, so there are no surprises when the job is finished.
It depends on where the blockage is and what has caused it. A simple blockage near an access point can often be cleared quickly, while a build-up deep in the system, or one that needs a camera survey first, takes longer. Your engineer will give you an honest idea of timing once they have looked.
Repeat blockages usually mean something in the pipe is catching waste, such as a crack, a displaced joint, a root intrusion or a heavy build-up of fat. Clearing the blockage alone will not stop it. A CCTV survey finds the underlying cause so it can be jetted, repaired or lined properly.
We protect floors and fittings and use the right protective equipment when handling waste water. Most work on main drains is carried out from outside access points such as manholes, so we rarely need to work inside. Once the drain is running again, we clean the work area before we leave.
Yes. We work for shops, offices, restaurants, hotels and industrial sites as well as homes. We clear kitchen drains and grease traps, jet gullies and yard drains, and can set up planned maintenance so blockages are less likely to disrupt trading. Contract work is welcome.
